TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD BOOK COVER
Purpose: Create two book cover variations; one utilizing nothing but type, and the other imagery dominate. The book imagery needs to be brought into the title page, table of contents, chapter header and spreads in order to create a system. I chose To Kill a Mockingbird.
Approach: For the image based cover, the metaphor of black vs. whites in To Kill a Mockingbird relates to the white egg and the black ink contrast. For the type only, I utilized flat color and form of the letter “A” to appear like a dead bird. I continued the type only cover into the interior pages of the book.
